dc.description.abstract Four-fold-mechanisms, such as the Miura-Ori-pattern, and its possible combinations are investigated by completing the mathematical description of a thin paper model done by Haas [1], with influences resulting from the thickness of the plate material. Additionally, different planning and realisation factors are analysed, focusing particularly on the elasticity of the plate material, the folding pattern, the realistic simulation of the hinge position and its necessity of kinematical freedom, as well as the inner friction resistance, resulting from the deployment of the necessary drive mechanism. Possible combinations of single four-fold-mechanisms to larger patterns featuring these characteristics are investigated, taking into account the previously mentioned conditions for planning and realisation. en_EN
